David M. Joyce, M.D.
Dr. Joyce is an Assistant Member in the Sarcoma Department. Dr. Joyce earned his MD degree from Case Western Reserve University, Case School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed an Orthopedic Residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio and an Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. He most recently completed a Musculoskeletal Oncology Fellowship at Moffitt Cancer Center. Dr. Joyce’s clinical interests include bone and soft tissue sarcoma in the pelvis and extremities, limb salvage surgery, pelvic bone resection and reconstruction, metastatic bone disease and pathologic fracture, basic fracture care, primary and revision total hip and knee arthroplasty, and other adult reconstructive procedures unique in cancer patients. His research interests include endoprosthetic reconstruction after tumor resection, metastatic bone treatment, and technology and computer-assisted resection and reconstruction.
Kerry Hale, M.D.
Dr. Hale is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon whose surgical specialties include hip and knee replacement surgery. She holds board certification through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. She is an Active Fellow member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). She has served on the Board for the Montana Orthopedic Society since 2011, and held many leadership roles at St. Peter's, including Chair of the Department of Surgery. She currently serves as chief of staff of the Medical Staff Officers and as the Medical Director of Perioperative Services. She is a Executive Medical Director on St. Peter's Executive Leadership Team.
She has experience with a variety of hip, knee, pediatric and trauma injuries and conditions. Dr. Hale enjoys helping people of all ages regain their health and ability to engage in their favorite sports or recreational pursuits, or return to work.
Jeff LaPorte, M.D.
Dr. LaPorte embarked on his journey in sports medicine while excelling in football and baseball at John Carroll University in Ohio, graduating in 1980. His medical journey continued at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois, culminating in his Orthopedic Surgical training at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1990. Before settling in Montana in 2006, Dr. LaPorte served as the esteemed team physician for Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green High School, Elmwood High School, and Eastwood High School in Ohio. Initially joining Western Montana Clinic, he later became a partner at Missoula Bone & Joint in 2014.
As a board-certified general orthopedic surgeon, Dr. LaPorte specializes in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal disorders and injuries. His expertise extends to sports medicine, arthroscopy, shoulder surgery, trauma, SI joint dysfunction, and joint replacements of the shoulder, hip, and knee. He represents the state on the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and has previously held the presidency of the Montana Orthopedic Society. His dedication to the local sports community earned him the Lifetime Volunteer Award from the Missoula Area Hockey Association in 2014. He continues to serve as team physician for the University of Montana Griz Hockey team, having previously supported the Maulers and the Missoula Jr Bruins.
Recognized for his excellence in sports medicine, Dr. LaPorte was honored as the Team Physician of the Year by the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association in 2003. Presently, he proudly serves as the Team Physician for the PaddleHeads Baseball team.
Brian White, M.D.
Dr. White's path towards Orthopedics began as a patient. An injury caused him to miss multiple seasons of varsity sports, but a surgery returned him to his senior year of athletics. This solidified his desire to pursue medicine so he could have the ability and skill to do this for others. This personal experience has been his driving motivation within his training and allows for greater understanding and compassion towards his patients. Through his training at the following institutions, he has established a solid core foundation that has allowed him to specialize in the surgical care of the hip joint. When you trust your hip to his care, he is the one who performs your surgery. Dr. White is passionate about his work and is committed to excellence and providing the best possible outcome. His team takes pride in their devotion to their patients and the care they provide for their whole person and not just their hip.
Clayton Vaughn, M.D.
Dr. Vaughan joined the orthopedic team in August 2023 as Logan Health’s first fellowship trained Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon. He specializes in treating complex fractures and soft tissue injuries involving the pelvis, upper and lower extremities, as well as joint replacement surgery for patients with hip, knee, and shoulder arthritis. Dr. Vaughan also treats patients with non-unions, malunions, and fracture-related infections after trauma. His focus remains on helping to restore form, function, and mobility for patients and allowing them to return to the activities they enjoy.
Dr. Vaughan completed his pre-med studies at Texas A&M University, followed by medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. He then completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency training at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Temple, Texas. Prior to his fellowship, Dr. Vaughan honorably served in the United States Navy medical corps as an orthopedic surgeon at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton and with 2D Medical Battalion at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, the Navy’s flagship trauma center in Jacksonville, North Carolina. During this time, he provided orthopedic care for active-duty service members, dependents, veterans, as well as civilian trauma patients. After active-duty service, Dr. Vaughan continued his orthopedic training, completing a fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma and Adult Reconstruction surgery at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, four children, and their two dogs, Bear and Moose, as well as enjoying all of the outdoor activities that Montana has to offer.
Nathaniel Fogel, M.D.
Dr. Fogel joined Logan Health in August 2023 as an orthopedic surgeon specializing in treatment of hand, wrist, and elbow injuries and conditions. Dr. Fogel attended Stanford University for his undergraduate, masters and medical degrees as well as his residency training. Additionally, he completed a fellowship for hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery at Duke University. Outside of work, Dr. Fogel enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, skiing and playing golf.
Benjamin M. Braun, M.D.
Dr. Braun received his medical degree from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina after completing his undergraduate degree at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He then completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Massachusetts Chan School of Medicine, where he completed an enfolded research fellowship, and served as a chief resident during his last year. Lastly, he completed a fellowship in complex spine surgery at the prestigious Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, Florida. Dr. Braun focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the spine, with an emphasis on spinal deformity and fracture care. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, and AO Spine. In his off time, Dr. Braun enjoys snow skiing, snowboarding, running, hiking, camping, or traveling with his beautiful wife
Sean Nork, M.D.
Dr. Nork is a graduate of the University of California-San Diego medical school. Following his training in Orthopedic Surgery at UC-San Francisco he a completed a fellowship in traumatology at Harborview Medical Center. He has been an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington since 1998 and was promoted to Associate Professor at the University of Washington in 2004. Presently he is the Director of Resident Education at Harborview Medical Center. Dr. Nork traveled to Bern Switzerland for two months as an AO Allgöwer Fellow in 2004 and was an AOA Fellow to Japan in 2004 as well. With a predominant interest in periarticular fractures, polytrauma, and nonunion, Dr. Nork has published over twenty peer-reviewed articles and has presented at numerous medical meetings.
Brian Werner, M.D.
Dr. Werner is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and shoulder surgery, including both arthroscopic and open reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee. He focuses on all sports and athletic injuries, and has a particular clinical interest in shoulder replacement and ligament reconstruction of the knee. Dr. Werner also performs arthroscopic treatment of shoulder instability (labrum repair), rotator cuff repair, ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair and transplant, among many other sports medicine procedures.
Dr. Werner earned his B.S. in chemical engineering from Penn State and his medical degree from Wake Forest. He went to UVA for his internship, research fellowship and orthopedic surgery residency. He then completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, where he was a team physician for the New York Giants and the New York Red Bulls. He returned to Charlottesville in 2016, joining the UVA Department of Orthopaedic Surgery as an assistant professor. He also serves as a team physician for James Madison University.
Michael Brage, M.D.
Dr. Brage is a specialist in Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Surgery. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois in 1986 and received his residency training at the University of Chicago Hospitals & Clinics from 1987-1991. After that, Dr. Brage went on to complete a Fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery at Harborview Medical Center with the University of Washington from 1991 to 1992. Dr. Brage treats all disorders of the foot and ankle including arthritis, tendon ruptures, foot and ankle deformities, acute trauma and fractures, repair of nonunion, total ankle replacements and repair of cartilage lesions. Dr. Brage enjoys the challenge of helping patients with severe foot and ankle deformities, injuries or disease, which limit their ability to lead an active lifestyle. It is rewarding for him to hear from patients following reconstructive or ankle replacement surgery, saying they have been able to resume activities. In his free time, Dr. Brage is an avid softball player and enjoys contemporary rock music.
Justin Jacobson, M.D.
Dr. Jacobson is originally from northern Utah. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency and a Musculoskeletal Research Fellowship at the University of Rochester, NY, the number one NIH-funded orthopedic research laboratory in the United States. He then completed a Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship at the world renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. His fellowship training focused on surgical and arthroscopic reconstruction of complex shoulder and elbow conditions. Dr. Jacobson has performed extensive research on tendon and bone healing, nerve regeneration, and tissue engineering, as well as clinical research on shoulder and elbow pathology. The results of his research have been presented at national and international symposia, published in peer-reviewed journals, and have garnered national mainstream media attention. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Jacobson specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and elbow, as well as sports medicine and joint replacement.
Richard Myers, M.D.
Dr. Myers brings a new type of expertise due to his training at the R Adams Cowley Cowley Shock Trauma Center which allows him to care for all traumatic musculoskeletal injuries including those of the upper extremities, lower extremities, and pelvis/acetabulum (hip socket). Of the varied nature of his work in the field of orthopedic trauma, he has also developed skills in complex joint replacement, limb salvage techniques, and tendon repair/reconstruction in addition to fracture work. His broad skill set includes fracture fixation, soft tissue repair, complex joint replacement and reconstruction, and bone infection treatment. Dr. Myers grew up in the Philadelphia area but has moved back and forth across this great country several times! He completed his undergraduate work at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg Virginia, then moved to the San Juan Islands for a year, pursued medical school on the east coast, residency back in Portland, OR, and fellowship then back in Baltimore, MD. He currently resides in Montana after leaving a high acuity, high-paced orthopedic trauma position in Coastal Virginia working at hospitals in Norfolk & Virginia Beach.
